Job summary

Winchesters, a real estate investment and property management company, seeks a Senior Property Accountant to join the finance team in Toronto. The role oversees accounting for a portfolio of commercial and multi-family properties, including rent rolls, journal entries, and monthly reporting.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of property accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and is pursuing a CPA designation. Yardi experience is preferred, and there is a base salary with bonus potential.

Qualifications

• Strong Excel skills including formulas, reconciliations and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly and quarterly property-level financial statements, including rent rolls, variance analysis, and operating cost and tax recoveries.
• Post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, amortization, and allocations.
• Review and reconcile general ledger, tenant, balance sheet, and bank accounts.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages.
• Prepare property budgets and forecasts for the commercial portfolio.
• Complete annual operating cost and property tax adjustments for tenants.
• Prepare property-level cash flow reporting and monitor cash receipts and disbursements.
• Prepare property tax, sales tax, GST/HST, and other regulatory reporting.
• Work closely with Property Managers to resolve accounting issues.
• Assist with year-end working papers, external audits, and auditor requests.
• Support financial system improvements and implementations.
• Assist with additional accounting and administrative projects as required.

The team is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive accounting professional with strong property accounting experience. This role will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of properties, with exposure to both commercial and multi-family real estate.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly and quarterly property-level financial statements, including rent rolls, variance analysis, and operating cost and tax recoveries.
• Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, amortization, and allocations.
• Review and reconcile general ledger, tenant, balance sheet, and bank accounts.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages.
• Prepare property budgets and forecasts for the commercial portfolio.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant property accounting experience.
• Commercial real estate accounting experience is considered an asset.
• University degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Currently pursuing a CPA designation.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and full-cycle accounting.
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Experience with Yardi or similar property management accounting software.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Self‑starter who can also work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
