Job summary

Bird Construction in Winnipeg, MB seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead and coordinate daily project management for large institutional and commercial projects within Manitoba. You will drive safety, schedule, cost control, and quality while mentoring the project team and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

The role requires a construction-related degree and 10+ years of progressive project management experience; knowledge of design-build, CM, or IPD is valued, with travel to Manitoba sites

Senior Project Manager

The Senior Project Manager leads, directs, and coordinates the daily management of the assigned project(s). This leadership position is accountable for the overall performance of the project including costs, schedule, quality, project status, and adherence to company policies and procedures. More importantly, the Senior Project Manager will manage a successful team and help develop future construction professionals.

This role will be based out of Winnipeg, MB with travel to jobsites located within Manitoba.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Manage assigned projects from start-up through close-out, ensuring performance against safety, quality, schedule, and financial targets.

  • Support project planning and executionin accordance withthe Project Delivery Framework, coordinating with estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams.

  • Lead project start-up activities, including handover from estimating, cost code setup, and internal team alignment.

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules in collaboration with the project team and subcontractors, ensuring alignment between master schedules and site-level lookaheadplans.

  • Oversee project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, budgets, billing, and change management, ensuringtimelypayment of A/R and A/P.

  • Support procurement and subcontracting activities, includingscopedefinition, tendering, and subcontract award processes.

  • Provide safety leadership through implementation of Bird Safety Programensuring compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  • Review and coordinate RFIs, change orders, shop drawings, and project submissions prior to client issuance.

  • Maintainaccurateproject documentation and recordsin accordance withcompany standards.

  • Participate in client, consultant, and stakeholder meetings, providing clear updates on progress, risks, and key project issues.

  • Identify, track, and mitigate project risks,maintainingan active risk register throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Prepare internal and external reports, including schedule updates, financial status, and risk tracking.

  • Supervision and development of project team members through regular feedback,performance management,trainingand coaching;timelycompletion ofcareer development conversations.

  • Administration and management of prime contract andsubcontracts;includes negotiation and awarding of subcontracts for scopes of work as well as review and evaluation of subcontractor performance.

  • Review andanalysis ofcosts andidentifyrevenue opportunities.

  • Support project close-out activities, including deficiencies, commissioning, turnover, and warranty coordination.

  • Foster andmaintainpositive relations and communication with clients, consultants,architectsand subcontractors.

  • Assistwith business development efforts, including contributions to RFQs, RFPs, and Expressions of Interest (EOI)S.

  • Other duties as responsibilities asrequired.

What We Are Looking For
  • Completed education in a construction-related discipline (Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent)

  • At least 10 years ofdemonstrated, progressive experience in General Contracting; direct project management of large institutional or commercial projects ($50+ Million) through various construction methods and delivery models such as Design Build, Construction Management, or IPD.

  • Construction experience in health care, hi-rise, or multi-familyconsideredan asset.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, withexperiencementoring anddevelopingteam members.

  • Service and results-oriented, youare able tobuild and steward trust with a broad network of professional colleagues,subcontractorsand team members to effect competitive excellence, pride in teamwork and outstanding project delivery.

  • Experience in digital construction is considered an asset.

  • You havedemonstratedcompetence in the areas of safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control,qualityand administration.

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.

  • Understanding oflocal building codesand construction techniques.

  • Experience with managing self-performscopes of workconsideredan asset.

  • Excellent computer skills andproficiencywithMS Office, MSProjectand/or Primavera P6, and industry-standard document management tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, SAP).Experience withInEightconsideredan asset.

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience with cost control, forecasting, and contract administration.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build andmaintainrelationships with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
