Job summary

Tundra, in partnership with Wajax, seeks a regional project management leader in Western Canada to oversee project execution and drive best practices across the team.

You will coach PMs/ Coordinators, plan resources with Sales/Engineering, and ensure schedules, testing, and deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in project management, preferably large commissioning projects.
  • PMP designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the regional project management team in the execution of projects.
  • Coach and mentor Project Managers and Coordinators in planning, controlling, reporting and recovery practices.
  • Coordinate resources from other regions to support project execution as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain production and drawing schedules, inspection and test plans and progress reports.
  • Provide procurement instructions and coordinate shop testing and site commissioning.
  • Manage equipment/material procurement and perform QA inspections.

Job description

The Opportunity

Lead and oversee the regional project management team in the execution of projects. Supervise the execution of work in accordance with internal processes and procedures and the use of project management best practices. Facilitate the communication and interaction between the project management team and other functions.

The Role
  • Drive project management processes within Tundra; coach and mentor Project Managers and Coordinators (Project/Sales) in the use of people, tools and project management accepted practices, planning, controlling, reporting and recovering projects
  • Maintain constant communication with Sales in order to plan future resources for project execution as well as regular interaction with Engineering and Service to contribute in the decision making process for scheduling of resources and priorities
  • Receive, review and assign projects and retail orders from Sales to the members of project management group taking in consideration the work load and complexity of the projects
  • Develop, maintain and manage production and drawing schedules, inspection and test plans and progress reports in a professional project management format
  • Provide specific packaging / fabrication and testing instructions to the service department and continue to coordinate including shop testing and site commissioning
  • Manage the procurement of equipment and materials including performing quality assurance inspections and maintaining records
  • Supervise and participate in the execution of monthly project profitability reporting including actively participating in internal reviews and presenting final reports to senior management
  • Support in the completion of yearly performance appraisals, setting up objectives and proposing compensation as well as providing coaching and mentoring to the team on an ongoing basis
  • Propose and chair internal project review meetings with customers, vendors or internal contributors and stakeholders including participation in handover and kick off meetings and leading regular production meetings for coordination with Service department
  • Provide direct management, participation and support to PM, PC and SC at any stage of the project and in dealing with critical project matters like legal or commercial issues, technical discrepancies, major delays and recovery plans, etc. Lead the decision making process.
  • Coordinate resources from other regions within the Production group and outside, to support project execution as necessary while providing support to other groups as necessary
  • Prepare other reports, technical, finance, etc. as necessary. Oversee and provide support to maintain updated project records
The Candidate

Education: University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset

Work Experience: 5-10 years experience

Knowledge: Experience in Project Management’ medium to large size commissioning project exposure. Background in analytical products is an asset.
