Senior Project Manager, Steel Brampton, ON

Reporting into the Director of Project Management, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for supporting and driving the strategic execution, fiscal profitability, and operational success of major infrastructure projects within our Structural Steel Division. This role plays a critical part in leading our structural operations from design to final site erection and works closely with internal fabrication shops, engineering stakeholders, field erection crews, and joint-venture partners. You will be responsible for overseeing multi-million dollar portfolios, managing supply chain risk, navigating complex commercial contracts, and championing the professional development of our project coordination and technical detailing teams.

PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE

Project Strategy & Operational Execution Lead the comprehensive end-to-end delivery of large-scale structural and miscellaneous steel projects, ensuring seamless integration across engineering design, detailing, connection approval, and shop fabrication.

Manage macro-level critical path schedules and project resources to optimize steel delivery and erection sequences, proactively preventing site delays.

Direct multi-million dollar project budgets, executing rigorous financial forecasting, cash flow analysis, and cost control measures to maximize performance.

Own the execution of contract milestones and performance conditions, ensuring all field operations align precisely with structural project timelines.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Commercial Management

Partner with internal detailing teams, fabrication shop managers, and field erection superintendents to synchronize workflows and drive unified execution.

Chair high-stakes project progress meetings with general contractors, owners, independent engineers, and municipal or provincial agencies.

Communicate complex engineering adjustments, budget variances, supply chain risks, and strategic recommendations directly to senior leadership and joint-venture stakeholders.

Negotiate contract scope changes, design revisions, complex change orders, and schedule delay claims to protect the commercial interests of the business.

Process Optimization, Quality & Safety

Analyze supply chain, fabrication, and field erection processes to identify and implement opportunities for structural cost efficiency and productivity enhancements.

Recommend and deploy advanced risk‑mitigation frameworks and logistics strategies to streamline delivery methods across heavy civil and transit sectors.

Ensure complete adherence to strict Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) benchmarks, non‑destructive testing (NDT), and CWB welding standards.

Enforce the highest level of health and safety compliance, aligning field operations with company procedures and regulatory standards for high‑risk heavy steel erection environments.

Leadership, Mentorship & Ad-Hoc Administration

Develop and mentor junior project managers, coordinators, and technical detailing staff, fostering a high-performance culture and establishing talent pipelines.

Mitigate project vulnerabilities by overseeing the rapid resolution of emerging structural modifications or field-fit issues.

Maintain robust, dispute‑ready project documentation, including extensive daily records, delay tracking logs, and contractual correspondence.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • 10+ years of dedicated, progressive project management experience specifically focused on leading large-scale structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and complex field erection.
  • Proven experience delivering major, high-value ($10M+ steel scope) initiatives within heavy civil, transit, bridge, or large-scale public infrastructure environments.
  • Deep knowledge of steel connection designs, fabrication shop logistics, non‑destructive testing (NDT), and Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standards.
  • Advanced mastery of commercial construction contracts, change order management protocols, and structural schedule delay claims analysis.
  • Demonstrated track record of attracting, mentoring, and successfully developing junior project coordinators and technical staff.
  • Certification requirements: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is strongly preferred.
  • Travel requirements: Ability to travel to local fabrication facilities and regional project sites as operationally required.
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Expected Base Salary: $120,000-$170,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
