Job summary

Toronto Police Service is seeking a Senior Programmer to design, code, test, and support complex applications. You will mentor junior staff, enforce coding standards, and collaborate with police officers and business partners to translate needs into solutions.

Applicants should have a three-year CS degree, strong SQL and database skills, and experience with Windows/Linux environments, cloud concepts, and DevOps practices. Hybrid work may be considered for some roles.

Qualifications

• A three-year degree/diploma in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience with relational databases (MS SQL Server, DB2/UDB, Oracle) and SQL.
• Experience with Windows, UNIX, Linux operating systems.
• Thorough understanding of GUI design concepts.
• Proficiency with IDE tools like Visual Studio Code and Eclipse; version control.
• Understand Cloud computing with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with low-code/no-code, Waterfall, Agile and DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Designs and codes complex new programs and modifications to complex existing systems according to requirements.
• Mentor junior staff; enforce coding standards and reviews.
• Collaborate with business partners and officers to define needs and validate solutions.
• Analyse, test, and document enhancements and corrections; support 24x7 standby apps.
• Liaise with vendors to integrate and customize COTS as enterprise IT solutions.
• Lead triage on defects; manage test plans and document outcomes.
• Develop user and technical documentation; train users as needed.
