Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of production scheduling or planning experience.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP; Excel skills; Access is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the production schedule to meet delivery dates and targets.

THE ROLE

If you are an experienced Production Scheduler or Production Planner looking to take greater ownership of manufacturing operations, this is an exciting opportunity to step into a senior-level position with a busy custom manufacturing operation.

As the Senior Production Scheduler, you will take ownership of the production schedule and work closely with Production, Engineering, Procurement, Sales, and senior leadership to ensure customer commitments and production timelines are met. This is not a desk-only scheduling position. The role is approximately requires you to be between the office and manufacturing floor, where you will work directly with supervisors and production teams to understand what is happening in real time.

The ideal candidate is a confident, independent problem solver who can identify bottlenecks early, challenge priorities when necessary, and develop solutions when materials, labour, rework, or other issues put the production schedule at risk. Strong critical-thinking, leadership, and communication skills will be essential to success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, maintain, and take ownership of the production schedule to meet customer delivery dates, inventory targets, and production efficiency goals.
  • Monitor production execution daily and proactively identify bottlenecks, material shortages, labour constraints, rework, design holds, and other issues that could impact the schedule.
  • Develop and execute recovery plans when disruptions occur, including re-sequencing jobs, reallocating resources, and coordinating overtime when required.
  • Work directly with Production Supervisors on labour allocation, order prioritization, and production sequencing.
  • Lead daily production scheduling meetings with supervisors, addressing outstanding issues and establishing clear owners and timelines.
  • Maintain schedule discipline and assess the impact of production changes before they are implemented.
  • Communicate schedule changes, risks, impacts, and revised timelines proactively to all affected departments.
  • Coordinate with Procurement on material availability and Production Supervisors on labour capacity and priorities.
  • Maintain accurate production dates, routings, and status information within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Load and manage production requirements at the workstation level to ensure employees and departments understand current and upcoming priorities.
  • Track and report scheduling KPIs, including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and reasons for production delays.
  • Analyze capacity, demand, and production constraints to make informed scheduling decisions.
  • Present production issues and recommended solutions clearly to the General Manager and senior leadership.
  • Support continuous-improvement initiatives focused on improving production flow, scheduling accuracy, and lead times.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum 5 years of production scheduling and/or production planning experience, ideally 5–7+ years with senior-level experience.
  • Strong experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex production schedules and changing priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of production scheduling, capacity planning, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems; experience with any major ERP platform will be considered.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel; Microsoft Access experience is an asset.
  • Excellent critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership presence with the confidence to work directly with Production Supervisors and hold stakeholders accountable to timelines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate issues, impacts, and recommended solutions to senior leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience working with production data, BOMs, routings, and estimated hours.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, including BOMs and CAD.
  • Self-starter who can work independently, ask questions, investigate issues, and make informed decisions.
  • Comfortable working approximately 50% of the time within an active manufacturing/shop environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM or a similar planning designation is considered an asset.
  • Project planning experience is considered an asset.
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement experience is considered an asset.
