Job description

Mycroft is an AI-native security and compliance platform. Specialized AI agents and human experts work side by side to secure our customers' devices, manage their vulnerabilities, and quantify their risk.

We exist because businesses looking to become or stay compliant have poor options to choose from: performative, do-it-yourself checklists, or expensive and time-consuming consultants.

We win by combining the best of both: world-class expertise combined with a cutting-edge agentic platform designed for making continuous compliance accessible to all. We've doubled revenue in the past six months and are on track to grow revenue 5x this year.

We're still early. The team is small enough that what you own is genuinely yours, and we're moving fast enough that your work compounds. The hard part is shipping at that pace while earning the trust our customers stake their entire security and compliance posture on. We don't manage that by slowing down. We hire people who can be fast and rigorous at the same time.

Our customers act on what our agents and screens tell them, so design carries unusual weight here. Information density, state clarity, and trust are the product. We're looking for a senior product designer to own that bar.

The team

Our product team is small and led by a co-founder who still designs and ships. You'll work in lockstep with Engineering and with our forward-deployed engineers (FDEs), who run customer compliance programs hands-on. Your first month includes real FDE work on live customer implementations. You'll build compliance subject-matter expertise of your own, so your design decisions come from how practitioners actually work rather than just from pattern-library convention.

What you'll own
  • The hardest design problems. Dense, expert-facing workflows across frameworks, controls, evidence, and risk, where a wrong abstraction costs customers real compliance outcomes.

  • The craft bar. The design system, patterns, and quality standard all product design at Mycroft builds within. What "good" looks like is yours to propose and defend.

  • Design-to-build fidelity. You work with engineers through implementation so what ships matches what was designed. You know when to spend polish and when to ship rough.

  • Levelling up the team. You will mentor a junior designer through critique, pairing and standards, and raise the bar beyond your own output.

How we actually work
  • AI is a force multiplier, not a crutch. AI tools are a line item in your tooling stipend, not a guilty secret. But when a design misleads, "the model made it" isn't an answer. You ship work you understand and can defend.

  • Real autonomy. You pick your tools, take on the important work that bubbles up, and are trusted to deliver without hand-holding.

  • Small-company reality. No quarter-long planning cycles, or red tape to block you. If you've thrived somewhere small where you owned what you shipped, this will feel like home.

You'll fit if
  • You have 6+ years of product design experience with clear ownership of complex B2B or expert-tool surfaces, such as data-heavy, workflow-heavy, regulated, or infrastructure products.

  • Your portfolio shows the information architecture and state logic underneath the screens, not just the polish on top.

  • You've built or meaningfully evolved a design system in production.

  • You choose the artifact that communicates best, whether that's a diagram, a prototype, or a static handoff, and AI tooling is part of how you move fast.

  • You've mentored designers and raised a team's bar.

  • You work well with engineers. You name states and edge cases without being asked, and you can negotiate scope directly.

  • You're in the Toronto / GTA area, legally able to work in Canada, with professional fluency in English.

  • No compliance background is required but an appetite for getting hands-on with the domain is. Regulated-domain experience is a strong plus.

  • You're genuinely interested in the security and compliance industry. The day-to-day involves a lot of dense reading (frameworks, controls, technical docs) and heavy use of AI. We're up front about this because people who thrive here find the problems and the work interesting.

Tools we work in (and will teach you)
  • Design: Figma

  • Domain: the frameworks our customers live in (e.g. SOC 2, FedRAMP 20x, CMMC, PCI-DSS, and more)

  • AI tooling: we’re fans of Claude but you can pick what works best for you.

Compensation & benefits
  • Salary + equity: $100,000 - $130,000 CAD per year, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Hybrid: We have a downtown Toronto office where the majority of the team comes in 2-3 days a week, and we support work from home. We expect the Product, Design and Engineering teams to come into the office at least once a week for in-person collaboration.

  • Benefits: Health and dental coverage.

  • Tooling stipend: a monthly stipend to spend on what makes you productive. AI subscriptions, design tools, the lot.
