Job description

Most candidates never get interviewed. They don't make it past the resume screen, so no one ever hears what they can actually do.

Cayde makes the first round cheap enough that hiring teams can interview far more people. Interviews run asynchronously, evaluated against criteria the team defines, with every score traced back to what the candidate actually said.

Cayde is part of Codeit, a Korean talent infrastructure company that grew from edtech into hiring technology. Roughly $27M revenue this year and profitable, so we're not building against a runway.

As our first designer in North America, you'll work directly with the founders on how the product looks, feels, and reads here. The initial product and its design system come from our team in Korea. Your job is to make it work for this market, which means deciding what carries over, what gets rebuilt, and what we've never had to design before. You're designing for two very different people: recruiters deciding whether to trust an AI with the first round, and candidates being evaluated by a system they didn't choose. Most companies in this space design well for the buyer and barely at all for the candidate. We'd rather do both.

The role is based in downtown Toronto. You'll own product design, the website, and the visual language of the brand here, and there's no design team to hand things to. We're looking for someone who ships. Taste on its own isn't enough anymore, and neither is speed. We want someone who can go from a rough problem to something real in front of customers, then keep changing it based on what happens next.

What you'll do
  • Design end to end, from the problem through flows and interfaces to what actually ships
  • Decide what to inherit from the Korean design system, what to adapt, and what to build fresh
  • Own the candidate experience, which is the part of the product most of our competitors ignore
  • Design the website and the conversion path, and keep iterating on it against real numbers
  • Make AI evaluation legible and trustworthy to people making hiring decisions
  • Sit in on customer conversations and turn what you hear into design decisions
  • Build the visual language and design standards for the people we hire after you
What we're looking for
  • A portfolio of shipped product work, with the reasoning behind it. We care more about the decisions you made than the screens you made
  • Comfortable designing systems and patterns, not one screen at a time
  • You get your work close to real, whether that's through high-fidelity prototypes or by working directly in code
  • You use AI seriously in your process and have opinions about where it helps and where it flattens the work
  • Strong judgment about what to build and what to leave out. We don't have a product manager here to make those calls for you
  • Comfortable being the only designer on a problem and deciding when it's good enough to ship
  • Able to work with a product team in Korea, including occasional overlap with Korean business hours
Nice to have
  • Experience designing B2B SaaS, especially products where trust and explainability matter
  • Design work on AI products, particularly around surfacing model reasoning
  • Front-end skills, enough to build what you design or work closely with someone who does
  • Early designer at an early-stage startup
  • Experience in HR tech, recruiting, or marketplaces
What we offer
  • Strong ownership of how the product looks and works in North America as our first designer here
  • Direct work with the founding team on product direction, not just execution
  • A working product with paying customers, not a blank canvas
  • 90,000–140,000 CAD depending on experience
