Job summary

Propak Systems Ltd. in Alberta seeks an experienced Lead Process Engineer to work on oil refining and related projects across a broad scope including FEED, modular packages, and full turnkey EPFC efforts. You will mentor juniors, interact with clients, and lead design teams.

The role requires extensive experience in oil processing, strong communication skills, and familiarity with industry software. Opportunities include site fabrication oversight at the Airdrie facility and travel for startup

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an accredited university.
• Professional Engineer registered and in good standing with Alberta PEO/APEGA or eligible for membership.
• 10+ years of experience in oil refining, upgrading, or recycling with focus on Desalters, Electrostatic Treaters, Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation, Thermal and Catalytic Cracking, Hydrotreating, Platforming and Isomerization, Steam Methane Reformers, Delayed Cokers, Sulphur Recovery.
• Experience designing alternative processes in Glycol Dehydration, Sweetening, Mechanical Refrigeration, Oil Processing, SAGD, Oil Treater Design, Material Selection and Corrosion, and Compression is an asset.
• EPC and/or Fabricator experience.
• Excellent communications skills required to interact with client and internal team members.
• Experience working with HYSYS and other engineering software (BRE ProMax, VMGSim Symmetry, Flarenet).
• Experience in sizing process equipment (separators, treaters, FWKO, heat exchangers, PSVs, flare systems, control valves, pumps, compressors).
• Experience with typical process deliverables (PFD, HMB, P&ID, Line List, Design Basis Memorandum, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, Datasheets, Hydraulics, Line Sizing).

Responsibilities

• Work on a variety of oil refining, oil processing or heavy oil projects for domestic and international clients. The scope of the projects will vary from FEED studies, modular packages and full turnkey EPFC projects.
• Acquire in-depth technical expertise in oil refining and processing

• 10+ years of experience in oil refining, oil upgrading, or oil recycling processing with specific experience in Desalters and Electrostatic Treaters, Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation, Thermal and Catalytic Cracking systems, Hydrotreating/Hydrofining, Platforming and Isomerization, Steam Methane Reformers, Delayed Cokers, Sulphur Recovery unit.
• Experience designing alternative processes in Glycol Dehydration, Sweetening, Mechanical Refrigeration, Oil Processing, SAGD (wellpads, water treating, Central Processing), Oil Treater Design, Material Selection and Corrosion, and Compression is considered an asset.
• EPC and/or Fabricator experience
• Excellent communications skills required to interact with client and internal team members
• Experience working with HYSYS and other engineering software (BR&E ProMax, VMGSim Symmetry, Flarenet)
• Experience in sizing process equipment is an asset (separators, treaters, FWKO, heat exchangers, PSVs, flare systems, control valves, pumps, reciprocating, rotary screw, and centrifugal compressors)
• Experience with typical process deliverables (PFD, HMB, P&ID, Line List, Design Basis Memorandum, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, Datasheets, Hydraulics, Line Sizing)
