Job summary

BQE Water Inc. is seeking two Senior Process Engineers to join its Vancouver team, focusing on the design of water treatment and mineral processing projects. You will own designs, seal IFC documentation, and collaborate with owners, engineers, and operations staff to deliver feasible, robust processes.

The role demands 5–10 years leading process plant design, a P.Eng. license, and hands-on experience across unit operations, mass and energy balances, and design documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Hydrometallurgical, Mineral Processing, Materials, or Mechanical)
• 5-10 years leading process plant design projects in water treatment, mineral processing, or chemical industries, with commissioning and operations experience
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in your province and able to stamp IFC level documentation
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills

Responsibilities

• Design engineering deliverables from feasibility through IFC design
• Own engineering designs and stamp IFC documentation
• Collaborate with owner project teams, engineers from other disciplines, contractors and operations
• Translate lab findings into practical design equipment
• Design unit operations and perform mass/energy balances, equipment sizing, PFDs, P&IDs
• Prepare technical reports, design docs and proposals
• Plan process automation concepts and PLC/HMI opportunities
• Contribute to internal design standards and tools
• Mentor junior engineers and support onboarding

The Opportunity
Our Senior Process Engineers have a broad range of responsibilities and engage with all members of the company, as well as our clients. The right person will have a passion for engineering design, improving design tools and systems and working within a team. In this role you will:

• Work with the project team to complete engineering design deliverables for unique BQE Water Projects ranging from feasibility, basic engineering to detailed and IFC design.
• Have the confidence and experience to own engineering designs, stamp and seal IFC level documentation and take responsibility and ownership for engineering decisions.
• Work and engage with other project stakeholders: owner project teams, collaborating engineers from other disciplines, construction tradespeople, colleagues in project delivery, commissioning, operations and laboratory studies.
• Work with laboratory staff to convert lab discoveries into design apparatus for practical application on BQE Water projects.
• Have experience in designing many unit operations including hydraulic conveying, solid-liquid separation, gas-liquid mass transfer, chemical and biochemical reactors, ion exchange and electro-reduction or equivalent processes and equipment.
• Complete detailed process engineering design including mass and energy balances, equipment sizing and specifications, PFDs, P&IDs, GAs, instrument lists, etc.
• Write, review and edit technical documentation including lab reports, technical papers, design reports and proposals
• Plan process automation for treatment plants (i.e. control philosophies, instrument specification, as well as the opportunity for PLC/HMI programming if interested)
• Contribute to the development of BQE internal design standards and tools
• Contribute to training and onboarding materials to expedite the development of junior engineers joining the BQE Water team.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Chemical, Hydrometallurgical, Mineral Processing, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 5-10 years of experience leading process plant design projects in the water treatment, mineral processing, or chemical industries, with commissioning and operations experience.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and review the work of junior engineers.
• Strong foundation in aqueous inorganic chemistry, combined with practical mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive, hands-on, and solutions-oriented, with a willingness to support multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in your province
• Comfortable with occasional site-based work while primarily working from our Vancouver office and laboratory in Mount Pleasant.
