Job summary

BQE Water Inc. is expanding and seeks Commissioning Engineers with 5–10 years of experience to join a collaborative team focused on water treatment and environmental performance improvements.

The role covers startup planning, on-site commissioning, and hands-on equipment operation across sites, with emphasis on safety and documentation.   • Prepare and review technical documentation (root cause memos, papers, reports).

BQE Water Inc. is experiencing an exciting period of growth and is looking to recruit Commissioning Engineers with 5–10 years of work experience to join our talented team! The Opportunity

Our Commissioning Engineers have a broad range of responsibilities and engage with all members of the company, as well as our clients. The right person will have a passion for problem-solving, operational optimization, and working within a team. In this role, you will:

  • Develop SOPs and project/site-specific execution plans for startup and commissioning activities
  • Oversee on-site commissioning activities, adherence to EHS requirements, and maintenance of quality records
  • Lead and participate hands-on in the inspection, testing, and operation of equipment and plant processes
  • Complete construction walkdowns to ensure quality system readiness for commissioning
  • Train operators through direct demonstration, classroom instruction, and detailed written instructions
  • Manage the schedule and budget of project and/or commissioning activities and resources
  • Write, review, and edit technical documentation, including root cause memos, technical papers, design reports, and proposals
  • Plan and monitor the progress and completion of design work and deliverables
  • Coordinate the work and interface of multi-disciplinary technical resources
  • Manage and direct communication with and between stakeholders
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide feedback to the design engineering team based on field experience
  • Periodically support the engineering design group and operations group
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Degree in engineering or a related field; disciplines of preference include chemical, hydrometallurgy, mineral processing, materials, or mechanical engineering
  • 5–10 years of experience in process plant design engineering, commissioning, and/or operations in one of the following industries: water treatment, mineral processing, or chemical industries
  • Solid understanding of the fundamental principles of aqueous inorganic chemistry and the ability to read and apply process specifications, PFDs, P&IDs, gas and instrument lists, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry safety practices and experience managing the implementation of EHS procedures, on-site hazard assessments, and mitigation measures
  • Strong mechanical aptitude – you have built things before and can figure out how things work
  • Can-do attitude – you always find a way to get things done. You enjoy problem-solving and don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves to help a colleague with a hands-on task
  • Personally, you’ll possess strong attention to detail, a sense of ownership over your work, and proven communication and relationship-building skills with colleagues, clients, and vendors
  • Highly organized, with a proven aptitude for maintaining costs and schedules
  • Registered, or able to register, as a P.Eng. in Canada or P.E. in the US is preferred
  • Comfortable periodically working remotely from sites all over the world, including rotational work at remote mine camps in North America
  • Able to work at our office located in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver, BC, when not working at site
