BQE Water is hiring a Lab Process Engineer (Intermediate/Senior) to join our Mount Pleasant lab team in Vancouver. You will conduct lab and pilot tests, analyze results, and help develop optimized water treatment processes for mining clients.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD level education is a strong asset for the role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Hydrometallurgy, Chemical Engineering or related field is required.
  • Minimum 3–5+ years of industry experience; PhD may count towards experience.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience with process testing and data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out lab and pilot testing programs with detailed test plans.
  • Assist Lab Technologists with bench-scale testing and equipment setup.
  • Analyze data, perform mass balances, and support process development.
  • Prepare and edit technical reports, memos, and design documents.

The Position
Core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Carrying out laboratory and pilot testing programs by preparing detailed test plans, executing test work, and delivering on defined scopes
  • Coordinating with and assisting Lab Technologists in setting up experimental apparatus and performing bench‑scale testing of various treatment processes
  • Performing lab, pilot, and plant data analysis, completing mass balances, and interpreting results to support process development and optimization
  • Writing, reviewing, and editing technical documents, including lab reports, technical memos, design reports, and conference or journal papers
  • Conducting technical assessments, including scoping‑level design and cost estimates, to evaluate water treatment processes and identify fatal flaws, advantages, limitations, and best‑fit applications
  • Contributing to technology development by conducting research studies, laboratory and mini‑pilot test work, and providing technical support to the IP and technology development team
  • Providing process engineering support, including developing process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, equipment sizing and specifications, and preparing PFDs, P&IDs, GAs, and instrument lists
  • Providing technical support to commissioning and operations teams and gaining hands‑on experience at full‑scale plants and pilot campaigns
  • Interfacing directly with clients to present technical findings and recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s or PhD level education is considered a strong asset for this role; a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Hydrometallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Water Treatment, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline is a required minimum education, but would need to be supported by direct water treatment experience.
  • Minimum 3–5+ years of relevant industry work experience in one or more of the disciplines above for intermediate level. Directly related PhD experience may be considered towards industry experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands‑on laboratory experience, including process testing, experimental design, and data collection.
  • Experience with water and wastewater treatment processes is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, with experience in chemical handling, hazard identification, and compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong documentation and record-keeping skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in laboratory and field environments.

Compensation Package
In addition to a competitive salary, the individual will receive:

Compensation
$75,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
