Job summary

TechBlocks in Vaughan, Canada is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to join the Enterprise BI team on a 3-month contract. The role is hybrid, requiring three office days (Mon, Wed, Fri) to design and deliver advanced Power BI dashboards and enterprise reports for leadership and operations.

You will build data models, implement DAX measures, optimize performance, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into insights, with strong focus on data governance and security (RLS).

Qualifications

• 7+ years of BI and analytics experience with Power BI
• Strong skills in DAX, Power Query (M) and data modeling
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data platforms (Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory)
• Solid SQL knowledge and data governance practices
• Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and Power BI Service management
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to join our Enterprise Business Intelligence team on a 3-month contract. This role is Hybrid role requiring three days' work from our office (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

You will lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced Power BI dashboards and enterprise reporting solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in data modeling, DAX, performance optimization, and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into meaningful insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop interactive, visually compelling Power BI dashboards and reports for executive and operational stakeholders.
• Build and optimize robust data models using best practices (star schema, dimensional modeling).
• Develop advanced DAX measures and calculations to support complex analytical requirements.
• Optimize Power BI performance, including data refresh strategies, query tuning, and model efficiency.
• Collaborate with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable reporting solutions.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance across reporting layers.
• Integrate Power BI with Azure data sources including Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Factory.
• Support deployment, workspace management, security roles (RLS), and Power BI Service administration.
• Provide guidance and best practices to junior developers and analysts.

Required Experience & Skills

• 7+ years of experience in BI and analytics, with strong hands-on expertise in Power BI.
• Advanced proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling.
• Strong experience working with Microsoft Azure data platforms (Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory).
• Solid understanding of SQL and database concepts.
• Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and managing Power BI Service environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in enterprise-scale environments with large datasets.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and deployment pipelines for Power BI.
• Knowledge of data governance and BI best practices.
• Experience mentoring or leading BI initiatives is an asset.
