Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Policy Coordination Advisor, you will provide strategic policy advice and coordination expertise to support ministry identified policy and legislative priorities through government decision-making processes. This includes supporting Committee and Cabinet scheduling, sequencing and tracking; coordinating cross-divisional input; identifying and escalating emerging issues, risks and time pressures; and preparing high-quality briefing materials, reports, correspondence, and decision-support documents that keep senior leadership informed on ministry priorities, timelines and government commitments.

Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the role requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to provide practical recommendations on complex, confidential and sensitive matters. As a trusted advisor, you will lead the planning, coordination, tracking, scheduling and reporting of ministry initiatives and government commitments. Success in this role depends on building collaborative relationships, driving strategic projects forward, managing competing priorities and heavy workloads within tight timelines and ensuring products align with government processes and quality standards.

Qualifications

Program Services 4 Requirements:

University graduation in a related field (e.g: Business or Public Administration) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience.

Equivalencies: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Preferences:

  • Experience coordinating policy or legislative priorities in a complex organization, including planning, sequencing, follow-up, and coordination across teams.
  • Knowledge of government decision-making processes, Committee and Cabinet scheduling, and senior leadership briefing requirements.
  • Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, presentations, correspondence, or decision-support materials for senior leaders.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to coordinate multiple priorities, track deliverables, identify risks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated issue management experience, including the ability to identify emerging issues, assess risks, understand timing pressures, elevate information appropriately and devise practical recommendations.
  • Experience monitoring, tracking, and reporting on ministry priorities, government commitments, deliverables or performance measures.
  • Strong research, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and actionable advice.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships, coordinate cross-divisional input, and influence without direct authority.
  • Sound judgment and political acuity when working on sensitive, high-profile, confidential or time-sensitive matters.

Understanding of the process for advancing legislation or strategic engagement would be considered an asset.
