Job summary

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC is seeking a Senior Planner to provide senior-level planning leadership across a broad range of municipal priorities, including development applications, sustainability planning, environmental conservation, community development, public engagement, and bylaw enforcement.

The role reports to the Director of Planning and Development Services and requires preparing reports to Council, advising staff and stakeholders, and supporting responsive customer service

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning or closely related field with at least 3 years of related experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning with at least 7 years of related and varied experience.
• Additional university accreditation in urban design, sustainable development, or community engagement is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate interdepartmental initiatives and manage consultant contracts.
• Administer development applications and lead bylaw enforcement.
• Advance policy and bylaw updates and environmental policy implementation.
• Support climate action opportunities and environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Lead and support special projects and subdivision reviews.
• Engage with residents, applicants, and the public to provide professional planning advice.

Job description

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC located in the beautiful south Okanagan Valley is accepting applications for the position of Senior Planner.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, this full-time unionized position willbe responsible forproviding senior-level planning leadership across a broad range of municipal priorities, including development applications, sustainability planning, environmental conservation, community development, public engagement, and bylaw enforcement. The Senior Planner will prepare and present reports to Council, provide professional planning advice to staff, managers, agencies, and community stakeholders, and support responsive customer service for residents, applicants, and the public.

Key responsibilities include coordinating interdepartmental initiatives, managing consultant and advisory service contracts, advancing policy and bylaw updates, administering development applications, and leading business-friendly process improvements. The position also plays an important role in environmental policy implementation, climate action opportunities, subdivision review, right-of-way coordination, leading and supporting special projects, and enforcement of zoning, foreshore, lake, and other related planning and development bylaws.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will hold a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning, or a closely related field, combined with a minimum of three years of related experience. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning, or a closely related field, and seven years of related and varied experience will also be considered. Additional university accreditation in areas such as urban design, sustainable development, or community engagement would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will bring a strong working knowledge of the BC Community Charter, BC Local Government Act, and other applicable provincial policies related to planning matters, along with broad knowledge of contemporary community and regional planning theories and practices. The role also requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, as well as a valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Hourly Rate:

$53.38/hour, plus a generous benefits package
