Job summary

The Town of Osoyoos is seeking a Senior Planner to provide senior-level planning leadership across municipal priorities. The role reports to the Director of Planning and Development Services and is a full-time, unionized position.

Key duties include processing development applications, updating policies and bylaws, environmental stewardship, climate action initiatives, and enforcing zoning and related regulations. Flexible hours may be required to support residents and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning or related field (3 years of related experience).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning with 7 years of related experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate interdepartmental initiatives and manage consultant/advisory contracts.
• Advance policy and bylaw updates and administer development applications.
• Lead process improvements to support business-friendly planning practices.
• Support environmental policy implementation, climate action opportunities, and subdivision reviews.
• Coordinate right-of-way matters and oversee planning-related bylaws enforcement.

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC located in the beautiful south Okanagan Valley is accepting applications for theposition of Senior Planner.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, this full-time unionized position will be responsible forproviding senior-level planning leadership across a broad range of municipal priorities, including development applications,sustainability planning, environmental conservation, community development, public engagement, and bylaw enforcement.

The Senior Planner will prepare and present reports to Council, provide professional planning advice to staff, managers, agencies, and community stakeholders, and support responsive customer service for residents, applicants, and the public.

Key responsibilities include coordinating interdepartmental initiatives, managing consultant and advisory service contracts,advancing policy and bylaw updates, administering development applications, and leading business-friendly processimprovements.

The position also plays an important role in environmental policy implementation, climate actionopportunities, subdivision review, right-of-way coordination, leading and supporting special projects, and enforcement of zoning, foreshore, lake, and other related planning and development bylaws.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will hold a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning, or a closely related field,combined with a minimum of three years of related experience. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Community andRegional Planning, or a closely related field, and seven years of related and varied experience will also be considered.Additional university accreditation in areas such as urban design, sustainable development, or community engagement would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will bring a strong working knowledge of the BC CommunityCharter, BC Local Government Act, and other applicable provincial policies related to planning matters, along with broadknowledge of contemporary community and regional planning theories and practices. The role also requires the ability towork evenings and weekends, as well as a valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Hours per Week: Full-time 35 hrs/week – CUPE 608 bargaining unit

Hourly Rate: $53.38/hour, plus a generous benefits package
