Placements24 is partnering with a leading pharmaceutical innovator in Kimberley, South Africa, to recruit a Senior Pharmaceutical Research Scientist. You will drive discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents, leading complex experiments and mentoring junior staff.

PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field is required, with 5–7 years post-doctoral experience in pharma. Expertise in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, PK/PD, and drug metabolism is essential.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or related field.
• 5–7 years post-doctoral experience in pharma industry.
• Proven track record in drug discovery programs.
• Experience with NMR, LC-MS, HPLC and analytical methods.
• Knowledge of PK/PD and drug metabolism.
• Strong problem-solving and teamwork; able to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

Conducting complex laboratory experiments to identify and validate new drug targets. Designing and synthesizing novel chemical entities with therapeutic potential. Evaluating the efficacy and safety of candidate compounds through in vitro and in vivo studies. Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and preparing comprehensive reports. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, biologists, and toxicologists. Staying abreast of the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in pharmaceutical research. Mentoring junior research staff and contributing to a culture of scientific excellence. Presenting research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Proven track record of successfully contributing to drug discovery programs. Extensive experience with modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and analytical methods (e.g., NMR, LC-MS, HPLC). Strong knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug metabolism. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team. Proficiency in scientific literature databases and data analysis software. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work effectively in a laboratory setting in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA .
