Job summary

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to take full ownership of payroll operations in a unionized environment. This is a sole payroll role, ideal for someone who thrives working independently and takes pride in delivering accurate, compliant payroll processing from end to end. This is an immediate start contract running through the end of November, working on-site in a convenient downtown Toronto location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Full-cycle payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees in a unionized environment
  • Act as the sole point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements, including union dues, seniority, and pay rules
  • Process earnings, deductions, benefits, and statutory remittances
  • Ensure compliance with CRA regulations, employment standards, and internal policies
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and documentation
  • Reconcile payroll reports and support internal reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with HR and Finance on employee changes, onboarding, and terminations
  • Support year-end processes (T4s, reconciliations, etc.)
  • Provide additional support to the finance team processing invoices and related Accounts Payable functions
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of end-to-end payroll experience, ideally as a standalone payroll resource
  • Experience working with ADP (Workforce Now preferred)
  • Hands-on experience in a unionized environment (strongly preferred)
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently on-site
