Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate, timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for hourly employees.
  • Oversees accurate calculation of earnings, deductions, and payroll taxes.
  • Ensures remittances and year-end tasks (T4s, T4As) are completed timely.
  • Audits payroll closing reports and supports audits and process improvements.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, theSenior Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing of various payrolls demonstrating leadership in the commitment to service excellence, while ensuring payrolls are processed timely, accurately in compliance with government regulations.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Responsible for accurate, timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for hourly employees
  • Independently oversees the accurate and timely preparation, calculation of earnings, deductions, and payroll taxes ensuring payroll and remittances are accurate and timely.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information by adhering to legal and ethical standards
  • Audits payroll closing reports and ensures completion and accuracy for Payroll Manager sign-off
  • Maintain employee confidence and protecting payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Managing employee questions and inquiries related to payroll and being a resource to the junior team members
  • Ensure compliance to federal and provincial employment standards, payroll legislation and internal policy
  • Ensures preparation of accurate and timely remittances of payroll taxes, garnishments, to external agencies
  • Manage, prepare, and complete year end activity tasks including final calculations and preparation of T4’s and T4A’s and Year End adjustments, balancing corrections, year-end reports etc.
  • Timely and effectively manage payroll internal and external inquiries
  • Support process control improvements identified by internal & external audits
  • Support internal changes and standardization of Payroll processes and systems
What You Bring
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) through the National Payroll Institute is an asset
  • 5 to 10 years of Canadian Payroll Processing and Reconciliation experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Canada Payroll standards and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation
  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong system and data flow knowledge, ability to learn and adapt to new process flows and technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship and communication skills
  • Exposure to the construction industry, considered an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Team)
  • Exposure to MS D365 and ADP considered an asset
