Job summary

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd in Calgary is seeking a Payroll Administrator to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across Canada and the U.S. You will uphold compliance with policy and regulatory requirements while maintaining precise payroll records and supporting a positive employee experience.

This full-time role is based at our Calgary Head Office with hybrid work options; you’ll process weekly and bi-weekly payroll, prepare remittances, and respond to payroll inquiries, continuously

Qualifications

  • 3 years of payroll experience processing Canadian and/or U.S. payroll
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Payroll certification in Canada or the U.S. is preferred; equivalent education/experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation (CPP, EI, tax) and general payroll requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for employees across Canada and the U.S.
  • Prepare payments for government remittances, union dues, and other payroll obligations
  • Reconcile payroll sub-ledgers to general ledger accounts
  • Prepare month-end payroll accruals and journal entries
  • Prepare payroll remittances, reports and payroll documentation per regulations (T4s, W-2s, etc.)
  • Respond to internal and external payroll inquiries
  • Develop and provide scheduled payroll reports for management
  • Complete year-end payroll reporting and reconciliation for Canada and the U.S.

As a detail-oriented and self-motivated Payroll Administrator, you will support the accurate and timely administration of company payroll programs. You will help ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, provincial, and state requirements while maintaining accurate payroll records and supporting a positive employee experience.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable government regulations
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for employees across Canada and the U.S
  • Prepare accurate payments for company obligations, government remittances, and union dues according to required schedules
  • Reconcile payroll-related sub-ledgers to applicable general ledger accounts
  • Prepare month-end payroll accruals and journal entries as required
  • Stay current on policy and regulatory changes that may impact payroll and benefits
  • Prepare and coordinate required payroll remittances, reports, and payroll-related documentation in accordance with government regulations, including employee deductions, garnishments, Records of Employment, T4s, T4As, W-2s, pension plan reporting, and WCB requirements
  • Respond to internal and external payroll inquiries
  • Develop and provide scheduled payroll reports to management
  • Complete year-end payroll reporting and reconciliation for Canada and the U.S
  • Prepare required payroll statistical and government reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager
What We Would Like From You
  • 3 years of payroll experience processing Canadian and / or S. payroll
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Payroll certification in Canada or the U.S. is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including CPP, EI, and tax requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, provincial, and state payroll requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with UKG is considered an asset
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
Location and other key details:
  • This is a full-time permanent position based out of our Calgary Corporate Office
  • The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with occasional additional hours as required
