Job summary

Volker Stevin in Alberta, Canada is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker Operator to maintain highways and ensure safety and functionality of roadways. You will support traffic control, signage, and emergency response while working outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Promote safety culture and maintain safe work environment.
• Manage signage, traffic control, and emergency response for weather events and wildlife hazards.
• Maintain facilities, logs, reports, and safety records.
• Transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high‑volume zones and emergencies.
• Inspect and service company equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Follow labour laws, safety regulations, environmental compliance, QA/QC standards.

Reporting to the Foreman, the Highway Maintenance Worker Operator plays a key role in maintaining highways, ensuring the functionality and safety of roadways.

How You’ll Add Value

• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
• Maintain well‑stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high‑volume work zones and emergency situations
• Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
• Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
• Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs

What You Bring

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• Experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is considered an asset
• 50+ hours of experience of snowplow operation is preferred
• Be able to work on call and perform on night shifts when needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
