Job summary

Wesgroup seeks an experienced Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join the Accounting team in downtown Vancouver. You will manage accurate semi-monthly payroll, oversee benefits and retirement programs, and ensure compliance with CRA remittances and year-end reporting.

Reporting to the Manager of Payroll & Benefits, you will collaborate across departments, drive process improvements, and deliver exceptional employee experience within a dynamic real estate group.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll and benefits experience.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, taxable benefits, statutory deductions, and year-end reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead payroll operations, processing semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees.

Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist

We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Accounting team and play a critical role in supporting our employees and business operations. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, you'll be responsible for the accurate and compliant administration of payroll, benefits, retirement savings programs, and employee records across the organization.

This role serves as a trusted subject matter expert, partnering closely across various departments to ensure payroll excellence, legislative compliance, operational efficiency, and exceptional employee experience.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead Payroll Operations
  • Process accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees.
  • Manage payroll transactions including hires, terminations, leaves, taxable benefits, deductions, ROEs, and year-end activities.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, company policies, and internal controls.
Administer Benefits & Retirement Programs
  • Manage employee benefits and retirement savings programs, including enrollments, changes, deductions, and terminations.
  • Reconcile benefit premiums and payroll deductions while supporting employees with benefits-related inquiries.
Ensure Compliance & Reporting
  • Maintain compliance with payroll legislation and reporting requirements, including CRA remittances, WorkSafeBC, and year-end reporting.
  • Complete reconciliations, support audits, and identify opportunities to strengthen controls and accuracy.
Drive Systems & Process Improvements
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll and HRIS systems, including Dayforce.
  • Support system enhancements, testing, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives that drive efficiency and accuracy.
Partner & Support the Business
  • Collaborate with various departments to deliver exceptional payroll and benefits services.
  • Provide expert guidance, resolve complex issues, and contribute to organizational projects and process improvements.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll and benefits experience within a complex or multi-entity organization.
  • Experience processing full-cycle payroll and administering employee benefit programs.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, taxable benefits, statutory deductions, employment standards, and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation.
  • Experience with Dayforce (Ceridian).
  • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, enhancements, or automation initiatives.
  • Experience within real estate, development, construction, or similarly complex environments.

COMPENSATION & REWARDS
  • Annual Base Salary: The expected salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000 per annum. Actual salary offered will depend on individual experience, qualifications, geographic location, market conditions for the role, and internal equity.
