Job summary

Arnett & Burgess Energy Services is seeking a Senior Payroll Advisor for a 6-month contract, based in Calgary or Blackfalds head office. You will oversee multi-jurisdictional payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance with Canadian payroll legislation, and effective cost allocation across projects.

You will report to the Corporate Controller, lead a payroll team, and drive process improvements while maintaining data security and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of payroll experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • PCP or PLP designation from the National Payroll Institute.
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation.
  • Experience administering group benefits and RRSP programs.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (Eclipse), field time entry, Excel and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle multi-jurisdictional payroll processing for salaried, hourly employees and contractors, ensuring cost allocation and compliance with federal and provincial legislation.
  • Prepare and submit payroll remittances and tax forms (T4s, T2200s, T5018s); perform GL reconciliations for labour costs and related accounts.
  • Support month/quarter/year-end reporting and audits; maintain payroll records with confidentiality.
  • Lead payroll team: delegate work, review accuracy, train, coach, and plan resources.

Job description

Our Accounting group is currently looking to add a Senior Payroll Advisor to our team on a 6-month contract (to start), based in our Calgary office or Blackfalds head office.

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, we are seeking an experienced payroll professional with deep knowledge of Canadian payroll compliance and proven leadership skills to oversee multi-jurisdictional payroll and subcontractor payments; ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all payroll functions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle multi-jurisdictional payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees and independent contractors, ensuring accurate cost allocation to multiple projects and cost centers and compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation including CPP, EI, income tax, WCB, and employment standards
  • Prepare and submit payroll remittances and required tax forms including T4s, T2200s, and T5018s; perform general ledger reconciliations on labour costs, accruals, benefits, deductions, and related payroll accounts
  • Support month, quarter, and year-end reporting and audit requirements; maintain accurate payroll records and employee data while ensuring confidentiality and data security
  • Manage the payroll team including delegating work to meet deadlines, reviewing accuracy, training, coaching, and resource planning
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 7 years of payroll experience, including supervisory responsibilities
  • PCP or PLP designation from the National Payroll Institute
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation
  • Experience administering group benefits and RRSP programs
