The Canadian Red Cross in Ottawa is seeking a Senior Officer, Government and Stakeholder Relations to lead engagements with federal, provincial and municipal partners.

You will draft policy communications in English and French, map government stakeholders, support events, and monitor parliamentary developments, while ensuring timely, accurate outreach and advocacy aligned with CRC priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 4–5 years of experience in stakeholder/government relations or public policy.
  • Experience with federal, provincial or municipal levels is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French and English) required.
  • Strong networking and partnership development skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Title: Senior Officer, Government and Stakeholder Relations

In this role, you will:
  • Draft correspondence and communications for government stakeholders including talking points, monitoring and analysis on government programs, policies and announcements, supporting outreach activities and any other GR tools as identified, in both English and French.
  • Develop and maintain mapping of government stakeholders.
  • Support event and conference planning activities and other engagement opportunities on behalf of the CRC.
  • Prepare weekly environmental scans and analysis of relevant government, parliamentary and policy developments, including committees, speeches, motions and other parliamentary activity.
  • Support the management of federal files as needed.
  • Conduct research activities as needed.
  • Attend external meetings and events as needed.
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in Communications, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 4-5 years job-related experience in stakeholder relations, government relations, public policy, communications, or a combination of education and experience. Experience in parliament or in a parliamentary office is a strong asset.
  • Experience working at federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, and/or First Nation levels of government considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of effective stakeholder engagement and government relations procedures and processes.
  • Understanding and knowledge of government in Canada, including knowledge of Parliament and parliamentary functions
  • Knowledge of and capacity to communicate complex issue sets relevant to the CRC’s mission and mandate.
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and/ or emergency management and international humanitarian work is an asset.
  • Able to effectively connect and engage with a range of audiences.
  • Strong networking and partnership development capabilities.
  • Strong flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances and an evolving environment.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
Working Conditions:
  • Work will be performed in a hybrid environment, working from home as well as in the Ottawa office and attending in person events/meetings as required.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours on short notice may be required.
  • Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work priorities and respond to time sensitive needs.
  • Successfully complete a Canadian criminal record reference check.
  • The majority of work will be conducted from an office-like setting.
  • May require travel to safe locations
  • In a large-scale emergency, where staff numbers are compromised or additional resources are required, there may be a request to provide disaster relief and/or emergency field operational support.
