Job summary

Manitoba Hydro is seeking a Network Administrator to support the corporate network, evaluate new technologies, and provide end-user IT support. You will implement switching, firewall, and wireless infrastructure, while mentoring junior staff and managing on-call duties to ensure reliability.

The role requires a four-year degree or two-year diploma with extensive Cisco experience, plus strong communication and teamwork skills. Travel and on-call rotation are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Networking hardware, including access, distribution, and core switch technologies.
• Firewalls and VPN configurations.
• Wireless technologies and performance monitoring.
• Experience with data centre infrastructure (cooling, racking, UPS).
• Familiar with Windows, Linux, and Solaris operating systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Team-oriented with customer service focus.
• Willingness to be on-call and work 24/7 on rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical designs for network connectivity to Manitoba Hydro endpoints, data centers, on-premises, and in the cloud.
• Act as the SME for networking on large enterprise projects.
• Evaluate, design, implement, and maintain emerging networking technologies (SD-WAN, ExpressRoute, Azure networking).
• Design, implement, and maintain system health monitoring technologies.
• Design, implement, and maintain wireless infrastructure.
• Install and troubleshoot switching, routing, and wireless technologies.
• Plan and execute hardware and software upgrades to ensure currency.
• Mentor and assist junior staff members.
