Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer to lead geomechanical analysis and design across the mining lifecycle in Canada, from early studies to construction. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on open pit and underground projects, delivering safe, efficient rock engineering solutions.

You will mentor junior engineers, develop technical strategies, manage scopes and budgets, and strengthen client relationships while advancing industry-leading standards in geomechanics.

Qualifications

  • 10–15 years of experience in rock mechanics across underground and open pit mining.
  • Experience with underground excavation design, ground control, and site investigations.
  • Proficient with numerical modelling tools RS2/RS3, FLAC3D, PLAXIS or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of mining methods and geotechnical risk assessment.
  • Ability to deliver complex projects from study through implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rock mechanics analysis and design for underground and open pit mining projects.
  • Design and evaluate excavation stability including stopes, shafts, drifts and slopes.
  • Deliver advanced geomechanical analyses using numerical modelling and limit equilibrium methods.
  • Oversee geotechnical investigation programs and data interpretation.
  • Guide project delivery by developing scopes, schedules and technical strategies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build strong client relationships and act as a trusted geomechanical advisor.
  • Contribute to technical innovation and industry-leading standards.
