Job Description:

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with chemical plant construction experience to be part of a new plant start-up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. The incumbent will be a self-starter, taking ownership of projects from scope determination to project closure, working in cooperation with other engineers for project details.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports directly to the construction project leader or designate and does not supervise others.

Key Accountabilities

• Manage capital and expense projects from concept to closure
• Design and manage installation of new and modified equipment, collaborating with production, maintenance, safety, R&D, and quality teams
• Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical designs
• Specify and manage installation of new equipment for projects
• Handle project material quotation, requisition, tracking, and staging
• Forecast, budget, invoice, and control project costs
• Supervise and support installation contractors and startup activities
• Maintain plant layout files in AutoCAD
• Evaluate plant system performance and recommend improvements
• Maintain high safety standards throughout projects
• Recognize and address technical problems proactively

Qualifications

Education:

• BS in Engineering required; Mechanical preferred

Knowledge & Experience:

• 6+ years in manufacturing or industrial environments, focusing on mechanical projects and maintenance engineering
• Construction experience with ability to interpret detailed plans and diagrams
• Experience in chemical plant construction preferred
• Experience managing capital and expense projects required
• Experience with plastic extrusion, web handling, process instrumentation, and utilities preferred
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (or Solidworks transitioning to Inventor), MS Office, and technical writing

Working Environment

This role is based in a temporary structure near the construction site until 2026, then at a 24/7 manufacturing facility with a controlled environment, around chemicals and automation. The role involves standing, walking, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

This position is safety sensitive, working near heavy equipment, chemicals, and moving parts.
