Job summary

TransAlta Corporation currently seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support safe and efficient operation across generating stations. You will lead maintenance planning, outage scopes, and equipment evaluations, while overseeing bids and contractor work to ensure reliability. The role requires field experience, P.Eng.

certification, and a strong engineering background in gas-fired power. The position is full-time and safety-sensitive, with hybrid work options in Calgary or Edmonton-area

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree and P.Eng. registration with a provincial association.
• 10+ years in thermal/gas-fired power generation or similar industries.
• Experience with outages, turnarounds, inspections, and field work.
• Ability to prepare engineering work scopes and redlines.
• Strong trouble-shooting and root cause analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop maintenance plans and outage scopes for gas turbines and plant equipment.
• Prepare long-term maintenance strategies, budgets, and lifecycle plans.
• Lead mechanical or multi-discipline projects and oversee cost analysis.
• Write procurement specifications and manage bids and contractor selection.
• Mentor engineers and ensure safety and code compliance.
• Perform condition monitoring analyses and provide technical recommendations.
• Support major outages and turnarounds with detailed work scopes.
