Job summary

TransAlta is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Calgary-based engineering team. The role delivers technical expertise to support safe and efficient operation of generating stations, with duties spanning maintenance planning, outage scope development, and equipment evaluations.

You will oversee projects, develop technical specifications, and provide oversight for bid reviews and design verifications.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or higher degree in mechanical engineering and registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a provincial association.
10+ years of relevant experience in thermal/gas-fired power generation or equivalent.
Experience with maintenance planning, outages, and field work in power plants.
Experience reviewing engineering designs and preparing technical specifications (P&IDs, piping isometrics).
Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work independently and lead by example.

Responsibilities

Develop maintenance plans and outage scopes for gas turbines and plant equipment.
Lead multi-discipline projects, including cost analysis and technical solutions.
Prepare procurement specifications and manage bids with contractors and vendors.
Supervise field work to ensure safety, scope, quality, and schedule adherence.
Support outages, turnarounds, and inspections with detailed work scopes.
