Job summary

AltaSteel is seeking a self-motivated Plant Mechanical Engineer to join our Maintenance team in Edmonton. You will report to the Maintenance Manager and provide engineering support to plant operations, troubleshooting equipment, and leading maintenance-related projects.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree with Eng designation (APEGA) and about 5 years of experience, preferably in a heavy industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from an APEGA-recognized institution.
• Professional Engineering (Eng) designation with APEGA.
• About 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience in heavy industrial environments preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects to scope, schedule and budget.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support to plant operations.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Identify and oversee maintenance and reliability projects.
• Prepare scopes, drawings, technical documentation, and cost estimates.
• Support equipment repairs, installations, and commissioning.
• Supervise employees, consultants, vendors, and contractors as required.
• Ensure safety, quality, schedule and budget adherence.
• Maintain engineering records and communicate findings to teams.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Safety.
