Location: Head Office – Markham, Ontario

Position Summary

In this hybrid position, the Senior Project Engineer with take a lead role in researching, designing and developing new products for the markets our Client services (Electrical/Lighting and HVAC). In this hands-on role, the key individual will take their inspiration from ideation to commercialization and drive towards the financial goals and objectives of the organization.

Position Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Lead and manage projects from initiation to completion while ensuring adherence to scope, budget and timelines
  • Oversee the design, development and testing of mechanical systems, components, materials and products
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, quality and supply chain departments, to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including project plans, schedules budget and reports
  • Mentor and guide team members, providing technical expertise and support.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in mechanical engineering, project management and relevant technologies.
  • Attending industry events, client meetings, and other networking opportunities, at times, outside of normal working hours.
  • Seize opportunities to develop new products and services, based on the needs and pain points of the customers.
  • In collaboration with Product Management, collect information and data to present a business case for NPD.
  • Brainstorms ideas and concepts on how to better service potential clients.

Application Management

  • Test and validate existing, new and conceptual products to ensure they meet the unique needs of the customer and their specific application.
  • Leads in the conceptualization, design and commercialization of unique products and service opportunities.
  • Assists with training, installation, and application collateral as required.
  • Provides input on products’ ability to meet local and national regulatory requirements.
  • Develops accessories, hardware, and other solutions to minimize customers' pain points.
  • Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected application issues when required

Relationship Management

  • Maintains consistent communication, support, and timely follow-up with key stakeholders in the NPD process.
  • Schedules and manages meeting updates internally and/or externally with relevant groups, prepares professional meeting materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to effectively communicate relevant product or process updates to existing and potential client groups.
  • Provide technical assistance to relevant internal and external groups.

Sales and Technical Orientation

  • Monitor and meet key KPI and sales goals.
  • Positively contribute toward the goals and targets of the company.
  • Develop sales strategies and tactics for the territory.
  • Identify and develop new customer opportunities.

Product Knowledge

  • Continuously improving product knowledge, product codes, and product applications/uses.
  • Attending relevant training sessions when keeping up with product knowledge.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Certification in Project Management is an asset.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and project management roles, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Proficient in CAD software, Solid Works, and other engineering design tools.
  • Strong Knowledge and understanding of materials
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Must show initiative and pay attention to details.
  • Team players, self-motivated and has a positive and engaging personality.
  • Excellent speaking, writing and presentation skills required.
  • Understanding of relevant certification code and standards.

Work Week

Work Week – 5 days per week, in office

M-Th 8:00AM to 4:30PM

F 8:00AM to 1:30PM

Compensation

Salary – Up to $130,000 per year (DOE)

Vacation – 3 weeks
