Job summary

MDA Space in Montreal, QC, is seeking a Mechanical Designer for Space Products to join the satellite systems team. You will design mechanical components for space hardware, integrate multidisciplinary analysis, and support manufacturing and testing activities at the facility.

You will work with engineers to ensure designs meet harsh space conditions and client requirements, coordinating with suppliers and the Ontario HQ as needed. Security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively.
• Proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Design the mechanical components of antennas, payloads, or space electronics units.
• Understand customer requirements.
• Propose designs that meet the requirements.
• Select and design components based on the constraints to be met.
• Integrate designs from electrical engineering, materials science, structural analysis, and thermal analysis into a 3D model.
• Develop and review manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bill of materials.
• Evaluate system costs and establish schedules.
• Monitor the progress of component suppliers’ activities.
• Support the integration and testing of components into higher-level assemblies (design and manufacturing phases).
• Develop bill of materials (BOM) budgets.
• Present concepts to the client.
