Job description

Agilus is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Designer in the automation solutions industry in Oakville, Ontario.

The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for delivering mechanical designs for systems based on project and customer requirements. The role involves being the single point of contact on specific design engineering projects, providing update status reports, follow-up on progress, and attending project meetings.

A Typical Day:

1. Design Systems, Machinery, Products, and Tools using SolidWorks.
2. Perform engineering calculations related to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force as they pertain to machine and tool designs.
3. Produce working drawings, including detailed drawings and bills of materials (BOMs). Designs will be based on input from Engineering Management, Project Management, Customers, Manufacturing Team, and other stakeholders.
4. Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly staff to implement designed equipment.
5. Work with cross-functional teams to develop, design, and deliver custom systems, machinery, and tooling.
6. Ensure project milestones, schedules, and budgets are met, and that all mechanical project documentation is maintained and up to date.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

1. Post-secondary degree and/or diploma in industrial or mechanical engineering or a related field.
2. 10+ years of relevant industry experience designing complex systems, machines, products, or tooling.
3. Proficiency with SolidWorks, both in 3D design and 2D drawings.
4. Knowledge of mechanical design principles including kinematics, force analysis, pneumatics, hydraulics, manufacturing techniques, materials, and standard components.
5. Strong communication skills to effectively issue sketches and instructions.
6. Ability to work well in a high-paced team environment.
7. Nuclear project experience is preferred.
