Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives.

Reporting to the Director Eastern Waste Operations & Maintenance, this position is responsible for leading and supporting strategic initiatives within OPG’s Nuclear Sustainability Services division by developing waste management strategies, conducting lifecycle cost analyses, and aligning with enterprise-wide clean energy goals.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Support the development and execution of OPG’s Nuclear Sustainability Services division by developing strategies to prevent, manage, and harness nuclear waste and by-products.
  2. Conduct nuclear lifecycle cost analyses and align proposals with enterprise-level clean energy objectives.
  3. Foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Nuclear Operations, Environmental Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Engineering) and external partners (e.g., CNSC, industry associations, vendors) to advance nuclear innovation and sustainability initiatives.
  4. Track trends in nuclear technology, regulatory compliance, and decarbonization efforts across the industry to inform OPG’s strategic direction and investment decisions.
  5. Project manage or support high-impact initiatives across departments, including negotiations with external stakeholders or advisors.
  6. Develop briefing materials and analysis for senior management, providing recommendations on opportunities and risks.
  7. Strengthen strategic alignment and cooperation across Corporate Strategy, Finance, Business Development teams, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure cohesive planning and execution across the nuclear portfolio.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 6–8 years of progressive experience in strategic initiatives, management consulting, or business development, ideally within the energy, nuclear waste management, or decommissioning sectors.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Canada’s nuclear regulatory framework, waste and decommissioning policy, and the economics of nuclear generation and refurbishment.
  4. Advanced proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI).
  5. Ability to synthesize large volumes of information and translate into actionable strategy.
  6. Experience engaging with regulatory bodies, managing external consultants, or supporting complex capital project planning in a nuclear or heavily regulated environment.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and political acumen when working with government and regulatory stakeholders.

Additional Information

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. Until then, the position will be temporarily based in Pickering, ON.

OPG operates across Ontario and the United States, meeting about 50% of Ontario’s electricity needs, mainly from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro. We are advancing new low-carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives.
