Job summary

Trans Mountain Corporation is seeking a Manager, Media and Public Affairs to lead media relations and public affairs strategies aligned with corporate priorities. You will provide strategic counsel to senior leaders, develop proactive communications and crisis plans, and collaborate across the organization with government, industry, communities, and stakeholders.

The role requires 10+ years in media relations or public affairs, with demonstrated leadership and strong Canada-focused

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Journalism, Business, or related discipline.
• Professional designation through IABC, CPRS, or equivalent is asset.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in media relations, public affairs, corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, or related fields.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and complex communications initiatives.
• Strong understanding of media relations, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, government relations, and public affairs practices.
• Experience advising senior leaders and supporting executive communications.
• Experience managing high-profile issues and crisis communications.
• Strong understanding of Canada’s media landscape.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using media monitoring, social listening, and analytics tools.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to inclusive practices and collaborative workplace culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of integrated media relations and public affairs strategies that support corporate objectives and business priorities.
• Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders on media relations, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and emerging issues.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with media, industry associations, government representatives, and other external stakeholders.
• Develop and oversee proactive media outreach programs, media briefings, messaging, and communications materials.
• Provide leadership and direction on reputation management initiatives, monitoring emerging issues and advising on communication strategies and corporate responses.
• Lead media relations activities during high-profile issues and crisis events.
• Develop key messages, briefing materials, speaking notes, statements, and other communications products for executive leaders and corporate spokespersons.
• Collaborate with Public Affairs, Indigenous Relations, Regulatory, Legal, Operations, and other business units.
• Monitor media coverage, public sentiment, and industry trends, providing analysis and recommendations.
• Lead the planning and execution of public affairs initiatives.
• Manage external communications consultants, agencies, and service providers as required.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to team members.
