Title: Senior Manager, Governance Specialist, Enterprise Data Protection

The primary focus for the Senior Manager, Enterprise Data Protection is to provide oversight and advisory services to Technology Groups and business lines regarding data protection (DP) control environment, considering industry best practices and regulatory developments. The role will assist in exceptions and ruleset management to help ensure data protection controls are effective, and risks are mitigated accordingly. This individual will report directly to the Director, Governance & Oversight, Enterprise Data Protection.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  1. Provide support to the Director, EDP on strategic and operational issues impacting Enterprise Data Protection. Promote a consistent approach to EDP’s management programs across all Scotiabank businesses globally.
  2. Collaborate with multiple technology teams including infrastructure engineers, security engineers, developers, architects, security operations, security advisors and technology risk teams to assess controls and remediation actions on the operating environment and ongoing projects.
  3. Oversee the compliance on Data Protection regulatory requirements.
  4. Support the Director in establishing and evolving the EDP framework, policies, standards, taxonomies, and guidelines to effectively manage data protection and related risk.
  5. Collaborate with management to develop recommendations around policies, standards and frameworks related to Data Protection.
  6. Lead and/or provide project management support and expertise to the Director and their management team, including leading strategic projects that are multi-jurisdictional in scope and/or involve multi-disciplinary project teams.
  7. Prepare executive management reporting and presentations, as required.
  8. Support implementation of a strong Data Protection culture in partnership with stakeholders across various business lines.
  9. Help to drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  10. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  11. Support an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  12. Act as primary liaison with Functions in respect of intersections and impacts between their respective policies and programs and EDP mandate responsibilities and policies.
  13. Facilitate and contribute to the preparation of management reporting relating to the responsibilities within the role.
  14. Develop and maintain standardized processes, templates and guidance documentation related to the activities of the role as needed, striving for efficiency and streamlining.
  15. Drive effective stakeholder management and alignment through interactions with internal T&O management and team.
  16. Build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts within T&O and the Business Units to support effective management and delivery of goals for the role.
  17. Ensure that the team maintains record keeping of key documentation.
  18. Additional accountabilities as required.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  1. Experience in Technology, Information/Cyber Security, Audit, Compliance, regulatory supervision, consulting, or advisory roles.
  2. Proficiency in creating engaging presentations, utilizing visual storytelling, and formatting slides effectively, along with experience in delivering presentations to various audiences.
  3. Sound business and technical acumen, with demonstrated agility in learning and ability to quickly become comfortable with unfamiliar businesses areas or of technologies. Ability to connect programs/projects to broader organizational goals and grasp the key performance drivers of business partners.
  4. Excellent communication (presentation skills, verbal and written). The ability to communicate confidently and clearly on conference calls, in meetings, via email, etc. at all levels of the organization.
  5. Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  6. Must also be proactive and creative, with strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  7. Excellent stakeholder management and influencing / negotiation skills, capable of balancing multiple perspectives, effective at all levels.
  8. Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related fields.
