ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)
IRC was created in 1984 to represent the Inuvialuit and their rights and benefits obtained under one of Canada's oldest comprehensive land claim agreements. With assets over $1 billion, not including vast land holdings, IRC is responsible for corporate investment, land management, and a broad range of social, cultural, and economic programs and services benefiting Inuvialuit. Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery, manufacturing, property management, transportation, and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry.
Since its inception, IRC has experienced considerable growth and its structure and operations have become increasingly complex. Combining local government and service delivery, community development, investment, and operating business divisions, all managed by a single back office, the organization has an array of complexities for the executive staff to navigate. There is an emphasis on fostering understanding, healing, and resilience in a region brimming with unique social challenges and immense potential for transformative change.
JOB SUMMARY
The Inuvialuit Energy Security Project (IESP) is a subsidiary of IRC. It is a community-driven initiative focused on enhancing energy independence and sustainability for the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Led by the Inuvialuit Petroleum Corporation, the project aims to develop local natural gas resources to reduce reliance on imported diesel, lower energy costs, and support economic growth. By utilizing responsible and environmentally conscious extraction methods, IESP seeks to provide long-term energy security while aligning with the region’s commitment to sustainability and self-determination.
The growth and increasing complexity of IESP has resulted in the need for additional financial management expertise. As the Senior Manager, Finance – Energy you will be based out of IRC’s office in Calgary and will help lead the development of this clean energy project. You will have a financial planning and analysis (FP&A) focus, including budgeting, cash management, risk analysis and return on investment (ROI) calculations. You will be a technical expert who can work collaboratively as well as lead.
As the ideal candidate, you bring a track record of success in financial management over at least five years, ideally in the oil and gas, energy, mining, or other aligned sector. Ideally, you have a degree in Business Administration (MBA preferred) or a similar discipline. You are a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), with expertise in financial accounting, treasury, internal controls, financial planning and analysis, cash flow analysis, risk management, and/or timely financial and management reporting. A strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize work effectively and excellent communication skills will ensure you are successful in this role. Bringing a roll-up-the-sleeves mentality with the ability to work autonomously and take initiative will prove incredibly beneficial.
This is a compelling opportunity for a technical financial management expert who wants to impact a major energy initiative and welcomes working with and supporting IRC.
