Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Leader to provide strategic second-line oversight and shape our risk governance posture. In this critical role, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, independently challenging first-line business operations while integrating risk considerations into new products, initiatives, and third-party partnerships. Combining traditional ERM rigor with modern analytical agility, you will champion a proactive risk-aware culture across our complex, regulated environment.

Job Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in office) - based in Toronto, ON.

Key Accountabilities
  • Second-Line Oversight & Strategic Advisory: Provide robust, independent oversight and effective challenge to first-line business units across operational, strategic, financial, and regulatory risk dimensions; advise leaders on proactively embedding risk management into new initiatives and product launches.
  • ERM Policy & Risk Appetite Governance: Lead the periodic review and continuous enhancement of enterprise risk appetite statements, frameworks, and ERM policies to align with evolving organizational strategy and regulatory standards.
  • Risk Assessments & Scenario Analysis: Design, facilitate, and execute comprehensive periodic and ad-hoc risk assessments across business units and corporate functions; actively contribute to enterprise-wide scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate inherent risks, control effectiveness, and operational resilience.
  • Vendor & Emerging Threat Surveillance: Oversee critical third-party vendor risks and conduct proactive horizon scanning for macroeconomic, industry, and geopolitical developments to provide forward-looking strategic impact analyses.
  • KRI Monitoring & Incident Management: Establish, track, and analyze Key Risk Indicators (KRIs); oversee the incident management lifecycle by conducting thorough root-cause analyses on risk events and near-misses to drive sustainable remediation.
  • Executive & Board Reporting: Translate complex risk metrics, trends, and assessment outcomes into clear, executive-ready dashboards and presentations for senior leadership and Board committees.
  • Risk Culture & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with specialized risk functions and business leaders to foster a cohesive, risk-conscious culture through targeted training and transparent stakeholder engagement.
  • Audit & Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary ERM liaison for Internal Audit and regulatory bodies; manage review processes, track remediation commitments, ensure complete closure of findings, and monitor ongoing regulatory changes.
Must Have(s)
  • Professional Experience: 10+ years of progressive risk management experience within capital markets, financial services, or similarly complex, regulated corporate environments.
  • Risk Governance Acumen: Broad-based expertise across enterprise risk domains (including Operational, Financial, and Strategic risk) and deep familiarity with standard risk governance frameworks.
  • Executive Communication & Influence: Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated success articulating nuanced risk concepts, challenging senior stakeholders constructively, and cultivating cross-functional partnerships.
  • Technical Agility: Solid critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, coupled with an active interest in leveraging modern data analytics and Generative AI (GenAI) tools to streamline workflows and modernize risk processes.
  • GRC Systems Experience: Practical experience implementing, administering, or utilizing enterprise GRC platforms (e.g., MetricStream, Archer, ServiceNow, Workiva, or equivalent).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
Nice to Have(s)
  • Professional risk or finance designations (e.g., FRM, PRM, CFA, CPA).
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC).
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace productivity and collaboration tools.
