Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for providing reliable and safe track infrastructure to maximize network availability and train velocity to support operations. The incumbent delivers improved efficiency in the designated region.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Staff Management
  2. Lead Managers, Track Supervisors, Assistant Track Supervisors, and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees across the territory, managing performance, encouraging development, and creating strategies to retain talent.
  3. Provide clear direction and communication on employee performance and department goals.
  4. Lead succession and talent management initiatives.
  5. Coach and counsel subordinates who are not performing at established goals and standards.
  6. Partner with Labor Relations (LR) to identify root causes and resolve grievance issues across the territory.
  7. Engage with workforce through coaching, feedback, and two-way dialogue.
  8. Safety Compliance
  9. Develop a safe environment for injuries and accidents across the territory.
  10. Ensure a standardized focus on the elimination of Serious Injury Fatality (SIF) potential injuries.
  11. Implement a standardized process to reduce and eliminate track unit collisions and Main Track Authority Violations (MTAV).
  12. Drive compliance to regulations and the Engineering Tracks Standards (ETS).
  13. Ensure territorial compliance with quality Exposure Reduction discussion (ERD), Job Safety Briefing (JSB), and Field Verification of Life Critical Rules (FVLCR) meeting required Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  14. Capital Program
  15. Maintain effective labor management and carry out capital projects to ensure improved productivity.
  16. Oversee yearly operating and capital budgets as well as drive efficiencies to improve performance.
  17. Prepare capital program requirements.
  18. Analyze and interpret track geometry and rail flaw reports to identify conditions requiring actions to meet ETS.
  19. Operations
  20. Manage activities related to derailments and disruptions in service while collaborating with others to determine cause and future prevention.
  21. Working Conditions
  22. The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. The role requires frequent travel (50%) within the region.
Requirements
  1. Experience
  2. Minimum 10 years of railroad experience.
  3. Minimum 6 years of track experience.
  4. Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
  5. Education/Certification/Designation
  6. High School Diploma or GED.
  7. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering* (any designation considered an asset).
  8. Competencies

  18. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, TIS, SAP, and TMDS.
