Job Description:
Microchip is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic team of engineers within our Communications Business Unit (CBU) in Burnaby, BC, Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing engineering projects, guiding technical teams, and driving innovation in semiconductor solutions. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve business objectives.
CBU is a Premier Supplier of High-Speed & High-Performance Optical Networking, Compute & Connectivity Solutions for Mission Critical Data Networks. We deliver innovative semiconductor & software solutions differentiated by Flexibility, Reliability, Timing, Security, and Power for data networking, edge computing, and automotive applications.
The CBU Product Development team is engaged through the full device R&D cycle from concept, design, and implementation stages. Once a prototype is available, we support embedded software development and system validation lab testing through to mass-market production release. We are an experienced chip team working with the latest semiconductor development tools and methodologies in advanced process technologies to develop state-of-the-art network devices.
As a Senior Manager in the CBU Product Development team, you will be responsible for the technical leadership of communication semiconductor devices or subsystems. You will oversee the design and implementation of digital circuits at the block or top level of a device. You will collaborate with Project Management, Marketing and Application Engineers, Chip Architects, Subsystem Leads, and Verification Teams to deliver complex designs in a friendly, challenging, and professional environment.
As an engineering manager, you will have leadership responsibilities that may include direct reports and/or contractors. You will have the opportunity to enhance and grow CBU’s technical capabilities through mentorship, coaching, and recruitment.
The role of the Senior Manager depends on the experience, background, and aspirations of the individual candidate. We strive to match specific assignments to the skills of the available staff on a project-by-project basis, while providing opportunities for growth and exploration of new challenges.
Responsibilities may include:
Device Manager
Technical leadership of a large, multi-site team of engineers to deliver highly integrated silicon solutions
Drive successful project completion through architects, domain experts, and empowered team leaders
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver on project goals
Team Leadership
Manage and mentor a team of engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Expand knowledge across the team in domains of Technical Expertise in Technologies, Flows, or Standards
Guide the enhancement of internal, proprietary Flows and Practices to improve efficiency and accuracy
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Cross-Functional Responsibility
Collaborate with Software, Validation, and Production Engineers to deliver production-worthy devices that integrate into a wider system
Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
12+ years related experience
Proven leadership skills, having previously led large or small teams
Strong coaching and mentoring skills
Ability to think both strategically and tactically
Excellent analytical and debugging skills and the ability to proactively solve issues
Proven ability to thrive on, learn, and adapt to new methodologies and technologies
Experience in designing, synthesizing, or verifying Verilog or VHDL-based designs for silicon, on FPGA or other platforms
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Experience designing System-on-a-Chip (SoC) devices (an asset)
Familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethernet, OTN, ASA, and others (an asset)
Experience with Synopsys or Cadence tool flows for synthesis, verification, or STA (an asset)
Experience with 28nm and smaller silicon process technologies (an asset)
Travel Time: 0% - 25%
Pay Range: We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. The annual base salary range for this position is 107,000 - 226,000.*
