The Risk Management Senior Manager is responsible for risk management within established parameters by leading and executing special initiatives, as well as collaborating with policy, PMO, Advanced Analytics, Operations, IT, and other teams. This individual supports processes to exercise good stewardship to maximize the overall profitability of Scotiabank International and its efforts to protect and build shareholder value. Specifically, the individual is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing special initiatives and supporting risk strategies across various lifecycle areas in the Caribbean region, utilizing tools such as TRIAD, OMDM, TSYS, Strategy Director, Probe, Decision Modeler, etc. The Senior Manager will lead a team of risk professionals to drive policy, strategy, and model system implementations across the lifecycle to foster growth within defined risk appetite.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Lead and foster a customer-focused culture within your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Manage critical transformational projects as the lead and SME for Credit Risk Management across the Caribbean Region.
- Collaborate across multiple teams including Products, Sales, Shared Services, Marketing, Product Delivery, GRM IT, and local Risk and Product teams. Provide leadership and guidance through regular communication to promote a strong risk culture.
- Utilize available system technologies (TRIAD, OMDM, TSYS, Strategy Director) to ensure continued and profitable asset growth through policy development, process implementation, and best practices aligned with bank standards.
- Lead the optimization of customer management strategies, including Credit Line adjustments, authorization strategies, and credit card re-issuance strategies through various initiatives.
- Maximize risk/return trade-offs, improve operational and credit processes, and effectively manage delinquency and losses to ensure profitable management of the portfolio.
- Collaborate with IB Partners to support growth initiatives aimed at profitability and loss minimization.
- Develop staff through coaching, performance management, and providing growth opportunities. Support development plans and monitor progress throughout the year.
- Ensure team activities align with the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in daily operations and decisions.
- Create an environment promoting effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, code of conduct, and global principles. Maintain robust controls to meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk obligations.
- Build a high-performance team by attracting, developing, and motivating staff, fostering an inclusive environment, and managing succession planning.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- An advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative/technical field. Some knowledge of accounting is preferred.
- Experience with SAS, R, or Python is required.
- Strong skills in organizing and manipulating large datasets.
- Advanced quantitative modeling skills.
- Experience in credit risk modeling related to probability of default and loss given default is desirable.
- Knowledge of stress testing, IFRS 9, and general banking financial metrics, with a good understanding of credit products and provisions for credit losses (PCL).
- Technical skills such as TSYS or FDR, Angoss, Model Builder, Distributed Systems, cloud computing are preferred.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Proven experience in retail credit business and risk management standards across multiple international locations.
- A result-oriented individual with high technical/statistical knowledge in retail risk technology/systems and risk management methodologies, balanced with a good understanding of business environments.
- Experience with industry trends, campaign management, risk-based pricing, and external sales forces, including third-party vendors.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to promote acceptance of risk initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels, including senior executives. Strong negotiation skills are essential.
