Job summary

Société Financière Manuvie is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Affinity Life technology team in Waterloo, Ontario. The role blends COBOL/mainframe expertise with modern software practices to design, develop, and modernize enterprise applications on IBM z/OS, APIs, DevOps, and automation.

You will mentor peers, participate in architecture reviews, and drive reliability, security, and performance while delivering meaningful business outcomes in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building and supporting enterprise mainframe applications.
• Strong COBOL/JCL/DB2/CICS and IBM z/OS knowledge required.
• Experience with modern DevOps practices and mainframe modernization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, unit test, and integrate new mainframe features.
• Build and maintain COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS on IBM z/OS.
• Support production, troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis.
• Lead technical design and implementation of backend/mainframe solutions.
• Drive API integration, connectivity with distributed systems.
• Conduct architecture and code reviews for quality and reliability.
• Promote CI/CD, automated testing, source control, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Maintain clear deployment, maintenance, and support documentation.
