Citi is seeking a Senior Mainframe Applications Developer to design, build, test, and support critical mainframe apps using COBOL, JCL, and CICS. You will own the full development lifecycle, advising teams on best practices and leading junior developers.

The role requires 5–8 years of experience, a Bachelor's degree, and a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Citi offers opportunities to work on large-scale systems in a global tech environment.

As a Senior Mainframe Applications Developer, you will build, test, and support critical mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and CICS, directly shaping how Citi's technology platforms serve its business users. This role sits within Citi's Technology team, where you will take ownership of the full development lifecycle, from design through implementation, while advising teams on best practices. You will work with a high degree of independence, acting as a go-to specialist for complex application challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design and build new or revised mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and CICS to meet specific business needs.
• Lead feasibility studies, time estimates, and cost estimates to support technology planning decisions.
• Manage every phase of the development lifecycle, including analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation.
• Provide ongoing operational support to business users on live applications.
• Analyze complex system and business process issues, drawing on in-depth application development expertise to resolve them.
• Develop security measures following implementation reviews to strengthen system design and functionality.
• Advise clients and other technology teams on programming solutions and support the rollout of customer-facing systems.
• Coach junior developers and help define development standards for the wider team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5 to 8 years of experience in systems analysis and applications development.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining applications with COBOL.
• Hands-on experience writing and managing JCL scripts.
• Practical experience developing with CICS.
• A track record of managing and delivering successful technology projects.
• Working knowledge of project management and consulting techniques.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities and tight deadlines without losing focus on quality.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
