Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management seeks a Recreation Aide to help plan, implement and evaluate activity programs for residents, ensuring dignity and rights are respected. You’ll collaborate with therapeutic recreation staff, assist with calendars, coordinate in-house programs and support volunteers.

The role requires a Grade 12, a two-year recreation diploma or a health care aide credential with a recreation certificate, First Aid, Serving It Right, and a BC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Education.
• Two-year Recreation or equivalent Diploma; or Health Care Aide with Recreation/Activity Certificate.
• Previous experience in a senior-focused environment is an asset.
• Dementia course is an asset.
• First Aid Level 1 Certification.
• Serving It Right Certificate.
• Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
• Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License.
• Criminal Record Check as per provincial guidelines.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work with cleaning supplies.
• Reading, writing and speaking English proficiently.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Basic computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships.
• Assist in the development of recreation and leisure services including program research, development, implementation and evaluation.
• Promote and carry out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment and games.
• Assist in posting monthly calendars and newsletters detailing programs and services.
• Coordinate external groups to provide in-house programs.
• Assist residents and provide portering to and from programs as required.
• Observe, document and report changes in residents to supervisor/nurse.
• Maintain safe environment, follow infection control procedures and reporting repairs.
• Maintain documentation per policy and confidentiality.
• Participate in orientation of new staff, meetings and in-services.
• Assist with provincial recording using Activity Pro/Point Click Care.
