Job summary

Cogir Senior Living is seeking a Maintenance Assistant in Ottawa, Ontario to perform routine repairs and maintenance, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents. The role emphasizes customer service, reliability, and adherence to health and safety standards.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will handle electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry tasks, while also maintaining exterior grounds and participating in safety inspections.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work independently and self-regulate.
  • Capable of performing physical duties including moving heavy objects.
  • Familiar with and able to carry out minor repairs to facility and equipment.
  • Knowledge and training in plumbing, electrical, heating, water, gas, mechanical, plastering and painting.
  • Able to maintain and manage a budget - detail oriented with ability to track work done and record costs involved.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety - Vulnerable Sector Check required or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Executes routine repairs and minor maintenance on electrical, mechanical, plumbing equipment and building components.
  • Paints, minor carpentry, and maintains exterior grounds not covered by service contracts.
  • Inspects premises regularly for maintenance and safety, and files reports with supervisor.
  • Adheres to facility policies, safety rules and safe working practices.
  • Performs housekeeping and maintenance duties as needed while handling handyman tasks.
  • Works in a role of trust with vulnerable adults (residents) and upholds the organization’s ethics and integrity.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.
