Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Linux Devices Software Engineer based in Canada to build and optimise low-level Linux software for embedded, IoT, autonomous, and server-class devices.

You will work with the latest Linux kernel technologies, contribute to device software across Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server, and collaborate with globally distributed teams on cloud-to-edge architectures. Travel for events is expected a couple of times per year.

Qualifications

  • Strong Linux focus with Debian/Ubuntu background.
  • Degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent with solid technical capability.
  • Proficient in C, C++, Rust or Go systems programming.
  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for events (~twice per year).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, maintain, and optimise Linux-based software for embedded, IoT, autonomous, and server-class devices.
  • Work with Linux kernel technologies and open source projects to deliver reliable device software.
  • Build device software stacks across Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server environments.
  • optimise kernels, libraries, and components for silicon constraints.
  • Diagnose complex system issues and deliver robust fixes.
  • Contribute to kernel drivers, hardware enablement, silicon optimisation, networking, robotics, and hardware certification.
  • Help customers deploy applications and SDKs on Linux-based devices.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed teams and discuss architecture and solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects and customer engagements.
  • Contribute to documentation and open source communities.
  • Attend international company events and collaborate in person 2–4 times per year.
