Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and deescalate situations.
  • Current certifications: LSI, LI, NL, FA or equivalent.
  • Advanced Training (NLI, LIT, IFAI, Pool Operator, etc.).
  • Leadership experience and staff mentoring.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
  • Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lifeguard, instruct aquatic programs, and mentor staff while ensuring patron safety.
  • Perform rescues and provide first aid as needed; maintain safe, efficient aquatic operation.
  • Lead and support Aquatics staff; collaborate with CUPE and management; adapt to trends.

Job description

Our Recreation Department is looking for a dedicated Temporary Part Time Senior Lifeguard to join the team.

Position Responsibilities
  • The Head Lifeguard is responsible for lifeguarding, instructing aquatic programs, and mentoring staff, while ensuring the safety and well-being of patrons through education and training. This role involves performing rescues and first aid as needed, and maintaining a safe, efficient operation of the aquatic area by adhering to established procedures.
  • This position's primary focus is to mentor and support Aquatics department staff, requiring strong leadership skills, experience, and training to recertify, guide, orient, and motivate team members. The Head Lifeguard will also step into a Crew Chief role as required and proactively address potential issues before they escalated.
  • In addition to collaborating with CUPE staff and facility operations, the Head Lifeguard will report to and carry out direction from the Aquatic Supervisor and Management team. They will stay informed on industry trends and community needs, ensuring services are delivered effectively with a well-trained and fully staffed aquatic team.

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting salary $36.56 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
