Placements24 is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with IP expertise to lead our IP strategy from a remote location in South Africa. The ideal candidate will manage patent drafting, portfolio strategy, and licensing negotiations while aligning IP with business goals.

The role requires 8+ years post-qualification in IP law, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a global, remote setting.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with 8+ years post-qualification IP experience.
• Extensive patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management.
• Knowledge of SA and international IP laws incl. patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets.
• Experience negotiating complex IP licenses and technology transfer agreements.
• Ability to work independently and manage a global IP portfolio remotely.
• Membership in IP associations preferred.
• Experience in technology or life sciences is a strong advantage.

About the Role

Our client, a pioneering technology innovation company, is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Legal Counsel with specialized expertise in Intellectual Property (IP) law. This is a fully remote position, empowering you to contribute significantly from your chosen location within South Africa. You will be responsible for developing and executing the company's IP strategy, protecting its valuable innovations, and advising on all IP-related matters. • Experience negotiating complex IP licensing and technology transfer agreements.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex IP concepts clearly.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a global IP portfolio in a remote setting.
• Membership in relevant IP associations (e.g., SAIPLA) is preferred.
• Experience in the technology or life sciences sector is a strong advantage.
