Senior Legal Counsel, Mergers & Acquisitions

The Montreal location in Quebec, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Senior Legal Counsel . This is a full-time, permanent position.

Overview : Reporting to the Vice-President, Legal Affairs – Wood Products, you will act as the lead in-house counsel on a wide range of merger and acquisition and divestiture projects. This is a high-visibility role requiring strong legal acumen, project management skills, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for M&A projects.
  • Manage all legal aspects of M&A projects, including due diligence, regulatory approval, negotiation and drafting of complex agreements, and coordinating with internal cross-functional teams and external counsel to ensure timely and successful execution.
  • Evaluate the legal implications of new M&A projects and partnerships.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks, ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and align with business goals.
  • Assist with legal services to business units on commercial and litigation matters as needed.
  • Strategic thinker with strong legal judgment and risk analysis skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build trust across disciplines.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Client-focused with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Your profile :

  • Bilingual in French and English (Required for all Corporate Positions).
  • Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited law school and admitted into a provincial bar.
  • At least 7 years of experience in M&A, either at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience in corporate and commercial law, including contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Experience in manufacturing industry is a plus.
