Team & Position Overview
FinDev Canada is seeking an experienced Senior Law Clerk supporting Legal Services i. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented and client-focused contributor to make their mark in supporting the development of the private sector across emerging markets and developing economies. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a growing and dynamic team in assisting them with their day to day transactional, policy and governance needs. This is a role with an interesting variety of legal work and exciting new challenges as FinDev Canada continues to evolve and expand as Canada’s development institution.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provides law clerk services to FinDev Canada in respect of complex transactional and corporate law work.
- Has responsibilities for the management, implementation, and maintenance of identified processes and governance systems in relation to legal transactional workflow (including managing and organizing knowhow, precedents, templates and legal transactional work allocation).
- Supports the Legal team with the management (including execution) of transactional documentation, the completion of legal research and legislative monitoring.
- Provides organizational support for the Board calendar and other corporate secretariat demands.
- Coordinates, corresponds with, and arranges document consularization with local embassies.
- Assists with external law firm strategy, retainer agreements and invoicing.
- Performs a variety of duties and responsibilities typically performed by a Senior Law Clerk within a corporate and/or secretariat environment including supporting the Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer, Legal Directors and Legal Counsels in connection with the development and documenting of internal policy and guidelines vis a vis corporate product and positions.
Must-Haves
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in legal department or private practice.
- Advanced knowledge of legal principles and practices as a law clerk.
- Education: Completion of a College Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in negotiating and finalizing non-disclosure agreements and engagement letters.
- Skills: Demonstrable organizational skills, self-starter and attention to detail.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience supporting cross – border finance and investment transactions.
- Experience working with Crown Corporations, Development Finance Institutions Multilateral Development Banks.
- Experience interacting with multiple stakeholders and be adaptive to various audiences.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to adapt to change and work with team of lawyers to help business teams adapt to change.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
- Strong team player who has the ability to work as a collaborative, cohesive unit (with other clerks and lawyers) and is open to input from others.
- Proven ability to take the lead on projects and initiatives within the team.
- Proficiency in both English and French (fully bilingual) OR both English and Spanish strongly preferred.
